Defining True Physical Strength:
First we have to define the definition of the word “True”.
In my mind, as applied to a feat of physical strength, the definition would be simple. Unassisted, and solely performed by an individual without help from human, animal or mechanical trickery. One so called sport of strength falls short of these definitions in the worst way.
Can you guess which one?
I Unofficially renamed it “Power Simulating” because the original concept and name, “Powerlifting” no longer can be applied as the true definition. The clothing trickery has reached such an extreme level of support, just about anyone can claim to be a “Powerlifter” now.
So..for anyone new to the game (can't rightly call it a sport any longer), if you happen to review the record stats of one of the various Federations, Be aware that the numbers will almost always be false. The only “true” physical power sports left would be “Strongman Events” or “Olympic Lifting”.
So now you know why powerlifting has gone from a televised, realistic event to a secondary school lunch room event of mostly over geared wanabees and a few of their relatives.
These folks have developed several clever ways to try to justify their actions but any clear thinking adult will quickly see through the cheap talk and worthless records that were stolen from true strength Athletes of old.
The three disciplines of powerlifting will always be one of the best and most efficient ways to train for true, overall strength. Only the competition venue has been ruined. But don't let this stop you from applying the lifts to improve your performances in any number of other "Legit" sports... MMA for instance.
